McCrory High School will implement a Late Start Wednesday for all students (Grades 7-12) for the 2023-24 school year.
Many high school teachers drive buses, coach athletics, and sponsor activities before and after the school each day, making it a challenge to schedule common collaboration to plan student remediation and enrichment. Late Start Wednesday will allow time for Collaborative Team Meetings and will allow MHS teachers to be part of a Professional Learning Community. The communities will provide educators with time to work together to focus on student achievement and data that shows which students are progressing academically and which may need additional support. MHS teachers will implement these planned relevant learning interventions and activities during Jag Time. Jag Time will be daily, for 20 minutes, between 6th and 7th period.
On Late Start Wednesdays, students will attend all eight classes. Every Wednesday, the MHS school day will begin at 8:25 a.m. Breakfast will be served from 7:35-7:55 only on Wednesdays. The tardy bell will be at 8:29 a.m. The day will end at the usual time of 3:30 p.m. All students that arrive at school before 8:25 will need to report to the cafeteria. Students should not be gathered around the school building or the gym area.
Buses routes will run at regularly scheduled times. Parents may still drop off high school students beginning at 7:35 a.m. and should drop off their child on the Northside of the school to have easy access to the cafeteria. All students are to report to the cafeteria when they arrive on campus. Independent study and homework help will be available in the cafeteria beginning at 7:55 a.m.
Breakfast will be served from 7:35 - 7:55 a.m. There will not be a Second Chance breakfast offered on Wednesdays.
Students may also choose to remain at home until 1st period, 8:25 a.m., on Wednesdays.
Passing periods between classes will be 4 minutes this year instead of the normal 5 minutes.
